Honda V3R 900 E-Compressor: Could This 900cc V3 Replace the CBR600RR?
Honda is reportedly developing a naturally aspirated 900cc V3 supersport that could succeed the CBR600RR. Speculated 120-130bhp, possible EICMA 2026 reveal and 2027 launch.

Honda might be about to do something rather interesting with its new V3 engine.
The Japanese manufacturer has already confirmed that its 900cc V3 is being developed for production, but the latest reports suggest we could eventually see a naturally aspirated version powering a new supersport - potentially replacing the CBR600RR.
And honestly, I'm quite excited about that idea.
Honda's New V3 Engine
Honda first showed its V3 engine concept at EICMA in 2024. Since then, things have moved on considerably, with Honda unveiling a running V3R 900 E-Compressor prototype in 2025.
The 900cc engine uses a 75-degree V3 layout and features an electrically driven compressor. Honda says the technology is designed to deliver the performance of a much larger engine while keeping the benefits of a smaller, more compact powerplant.
But the version potentially destined for a supersport could be rather different.
Reports suggest Honda is working on a naturally aspirated 900cc V3, with around 120-130bhp being suggested. Honda hasn't confirmed those figures, or even confirmed that this bike exists, so it's worth treating this as speculation for now.
Why Replace the CBR600RR?
The CBR600RR is a fantastic motorcycle, but the traditional 600cc supersport formula is becoming increasingly difficult to justify.
Honda's current CBR600RR uses a 599cc four-cylinder engine producing around 121bhp, and you need to get well into the rev range to make the most of it. A 900cc V3 could offer similar peak power while delivering considerably more torque lower down.
That could make the next-generation bike much more enjoyable on the road without sacrificing the sharp handling and high-revving character that you'd expect from a proper Honda sportsbike.
Honda isn't alone in moving away from the traditional 600. Yamaha's R9 has already replaced the company's old R6 formula with an 890cc triple. Ducati has also moved its Panigale V2 away from the old V-twin setup. The supersport class is changing - and a V3 could be Honda's answer.
The Really Interesting Bit
What I like about this story is that Honda isn't simply making a bigger version of the CBR600RR. It's trying something completely different.
A 900cc V3 should be compact, narrow and full of character, while the lack of a compressor on the potential supersport could keep the engine lighter and simpler than the V3R 900 E-Compressor.
Recent reports suggest a new V3-powered supersport could arrive as early as 2027, with a possible first look at EICMA 2026. If that's true, we could be looking at the end of the traditional CBR600RR and the beginning of something completely new.
I'm Intrigued
I'll always have a soft spot for a screaming 600cc four-cylinder. There's something special about wringing the neck of a CBR600RR and waiting for the revs to explode towards the redline.
But I'm also willing to admit that the formula needs to evolve. A lightweight 900cc V3 with around 125bhp, plenty of midrange torque and a proper sportsbike chassis sounds like a pretty good way of doing it.
Honda hasn't confirmed the bike yet, so for now we'll have to wait and see. But if this is where the CBR600RR is heading, I'm definitely interested.
Would you rather have the old-school 600cc four-cylinder, or does a 900cc V3 sound like the future?
